Frequently
Asked Questions
1
What's the best month to visit?
The summer climate here at Colorado Trails Ranch is fairly consistent from June through August, just right for the perfect family vacation. You can expect temperatures to range from highs in the 80’s to lows in the mid 60’s. At our elevation, there is virtually no humidity.
If you plan your visit for September, this is premium fly-fishing season. Our average temperatures at this time are in the mid-70s to mid-50s. We typically have spectacular Indian Summer weather with lots of brilliant color, as the beautiful aspen leaves are changing. October is also picture perfect. While the temps will be a bit more crisp, when the sun comes out, which it usually does, you can’t beat the riding. The fall foliage offers some of the most picturesque riding experiences.
2
Can we visit for less than a full week?
For those interested in a short term all-inclusive dude ranch experience, if you can start on Sunday with the rest of the guests, there is a 3 night minimum. Partial week stays are only available on a limited basis.

We also offer off-season packages beginning in August and running until we close at the end of October.

From October-May, our cabins are available for cabin rentals only.
3
Do you have any special reduced rate vacation packages?
We offer Special Deals in June and July for all-inclusive weekly stays. We often run other promotions like a multi-family discount.
4
What should I pack?
Our ranch atmosphere is casual. Most guests wear jeans but slacks and dresses are welcome as well. Naturally, some activities will have some specific comfort and safety requirements...

Packing for horseback riding: Wear jeans or riding pants and boots with a smooth sole and heel (no spurs). You may also want to bring a hat and pair of gloves.

Packing for hiking: Be sure to bring your hiking boots or athletic shoes for the trails. In colder months, we suggest wearing layers of clothing that can be removed and tied around your waist. You may also like a hiking stick for some of our more challenging mountainside routes.

Other things to pack:
-
Swimsuit for the pool and hot tub (towels are provided)
-
Sunscreen is a must! We do sell this at the Trading Post if needed.
-
For Colorado summer vacations, you'll want shorts and short sleeves for daytime and jeans with a sweatshirt or jacket for the cooler nights.
-
For May or September visits, days are usually in the 70's and nights in the 50's. You'll need some warmer clothes during those parts of the season. We suggest layers!
5
Do you have laundry facilities?
We provide our guests with the complimentary use of three washers and dryers and laundry detergent.
6
Do you have internet access?
Yes. Internet is available in the cabins and around our Lodge and office area. There is also a computer with internet and printer upstairs in the Lodge for adults to check email, print boarding passes, etc.
7
Will my cell phone have a signal?
Cell phone service is spotty on the Ranch. We have a network extender allowing for cell service for Verizon around the office, trading post, lodge and opera house. There is also a landline available by the office for our guests.
8
Do you allow pets?
Unfortunately, because of all the animals already on the Ranch and the immense open areas, we do not allow our guests to bring pets. However, there's an excellent kennel in Durango we can refer you to.
9
What do we do if we forget something important?
Everything you could need during vacation on our guest ranch is available in Durango. We’re happy to run into town to do any errands for you first thing Monday morning. Staff can complete your shopping list at the grocery store, hardware store, drugstore… wherever you need us to go!
10
What is your alcohol policy?
The Ranch currently does not sell or provide alcohol, however, you are welcome to bring your own. Or if you’d like, we can pick up alcoholic beverages for you during our Monday morning errands and add the cost to your bill.
11
Do you offer babysitting?
Our children’s program begins at age 5. For children under 5, babysitters can be available with advance notice for an hourly rate.
