Since this is your family ranch vacations destination, you will most likely arrive on a time saving flight, rather than driving all the way here.

Flying into Durango makes it possible for the ranch van to pick you up upon arrival. You can also fly into nearby Bayfield, Colorado, and make the short drive to Durango via rental car. Check in time for your stay on our guest ranch is Sunday afternoon, so you can choose one of several options.

A lot of our dude ranch guests prefer to fly in to Santa Fe or Albuquerque, New Mexico, and enjoy a scenic discovery the rest of the way to Colorado Trails. Albuquerque is the best airport for lower priced fares, and a four hour drive to Colorado Trails through some beautiful country. This makes it extra enticing to fly into Albuquerque International on Saturday for a leisurely start on Sunday morning, and arrive in plenty of time to settle into your Durango dude ranch cabin before dinner.

For our visitors who have longer than a week to play, there are some great attractions you might want to plan on taking in before, or after, your family ranch vacations. The train ride out of Durango is wonderful, and you’ll be able to experience miles and miles of breathtaking scenic panoramas. You’ll also find some great shopping in downtown Durango, if you’re inclined to check out the boutiques. The arts are alive and well here, as you will find featured in paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and much more with a decided Native American or cowboy flair.

You’ll also find some fascinating archaeological sites located here around the towns of Cortez and Pagosa Springs. Canyons of the Ancients is an open air museum of structures built in several phases by the Puebloan people, beginning in about 750 BC. A discovery worth adding to a longer stay than your week on dude ranch Colorado Trails is the Hovensweep, Chimney Rock and the exciting Mesa Verde Cliff Castle or Canyons of the Ancients Monuments. All are archaeological wonders that many of your guest ranch visitors would love to take in. It is only about an hour’s drive away, yet leaving the ranch is never accomplished once you have arrived, and seen what all there is to do right here.

Of course, if you are intent on a fly fishing vacation at our Durango, Colorado guest ranch, you might find the famous trout fishing in the area so fine, you will want to remain in the area a few days longer for the angling. The Animas River is open to the public to do just that, right in downtown Durango. For many a seasoned fly fisherman, it is very tempting to reserve a room in town for a day or two, following the privately guided trout fishing programs as our dude ranch guests.

Since your flight itinerary must be reserved in advance for the best price on airfare, you will want to plan out this family ranch vacation trip properly. The majority of our guests are so busy with everything there is to do on the ranch, they send the staff to town to pick up what they have forgotten – or find is a must have item not stocked in our ranch store. About the only time you’ll want to leave ranch property is if you elect to go river rafting or power tubing at Lake Vallecito with your new friends. There is just so much to see and do right here on our Durango, Colorado dude ranch, you won’t find time to go anywhere else. A week is only a long time when you’re bored or stuck at work.
