FAQs

What’s the best month to visit?

Because our summer climate is fairly consistent from June through August, it's always a great time to come to Colorado Trails Ranch. In the summer, highs are in the 80s and lows are in the mid-60s with virtually no humidity.

We offer discount weeks in early June and in September, when a three-night minimum stay is available. The average temperatures at this time are in the mid-70s to mid-50s. We typically have spectacular Indian Summer weather, the beautiful aspen leaves are changing colors, and it’s also a premier time for fly-fishing.

What should I pack?

Our atmosphere is casual – and if you have any Western-type clothes, bring them along!

For horseback riding, you’ll need jeans or riding pants; and boots with a smooth sole and heel are required. (We have a limited supply of loaner boots.) For riding, we recommend long sleeves, a hat, and a pair of gloves. Some of our guests suggest wearing an extra layer between jeans and skin – such as tights, pantyhose, long underwear, or Lycra shorts – to help protect from chafing.

For hiking, you’ll need hiking boots or athletic shoes, and be sure to bring your swimsuit for the pool and hot tub. (We provide pool towels.)

Since the daytime temperatures are in the 80s during the summer (cooler in the fall) and evenings are in the 50s and 60s, you should bring shorts and short-sleeve shirts, but also a jacket or sweatshirt for the evenings.

With our altitude of 7,500 feet and sunny Colorado skies, sun protection is a must; please bring sunscreen. Sunscreen is available at the Trading Post, where you can also purchase sweatshirts, T-shirts, western hats, and caps.

Do you have laundry facilities?

We provide our guests with the complimentary use of three washers and dryers and laundry detergent.

Do you have Internet access?

There’s high-speed wireless access in some areas around the office and some parts of the Loft (a gathering area in the main lodge). If you don’t bring a laptop, there’s a computer available on a limited access basis in the office.

Do you allow pets?

Because of all the animals on our dude ranch, we can’t accommodate pets. However, there’s an excellent kennel we can refer you to in town.

What do we do if we forget something important?

Everything you could need during your ranch vacation is available in Durango – and we’re happy to run into town first thing Monday morning to do any errands for you at the grocery store, hardware store, drugstore… wherever you need us to go!

What’s your alcohol policy?

During the summer, we have a very family-oriented atmosphere, so we don’t sell any alcoholic beverages – but you may bring your own. Or, if you’d like, we can pick up alcoholic beverages for you on Monday morning and add the cost to your bill.

Do you offer babysitting?

Our children's program begins at age 5. For children under 5, babysitters can be available with advance notice and at a charge of $8.50 an hour.
